Dr. Tomas Vagoun

Dr. Vagoun joined the National Coordination Office (NCO) for Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NITRD) in April 2008 as the Technical Coordinator for the Cyber Security and Information Assurance Interagency Working Group (CSIA IWG), the Software Design and Productivity (SDP) Coordinating Group (CG), and the Federal Agency Administration of Science and Technology Education and Research (FASTER) Committee of Practice (CoP).
Prior to joining the NCO, as a Program Manager at QinetiQ North America, Dr. Vagoun led the implementation of software development projects for major federal civilian and defense agencies. One of the projects, the Enterprise Income Verification system at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, has been recognized nationally with awards from the Office of the President, the OMB, the GSA, and the industry.
Dr. Vagoun has 20 years of technical and management experience in the development of information technology services and products, in positions such as the Director of Business and Product Development at Verestar / American Tower Corp., International Product Manager at UUNET / WorldCom, and as a Principal at two start-up companies.
In 1995, Dr. Vagoun served as the Research Fellow of the US Institute of International Education, as the Special Assistant to the Director of the Czech scientific and academic Internet network. In addition, Dr. Vagoun has held appointments as Adjunct Faculty at the College of Business and Management, University of Maryland, at the College of Business and Economics and the Department of Computer Science, West Virginia University, and at the Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic.
Dr. Vagoun received a Ph.D. degree in Information Systems, at the University of Maryland, and M.S. and B.S. degrees in Computer Science, at West Virginia University.
