Middleware And Grid Infrastructure Coordination (MAGIC) Team
Overview
The MAGIC Team provides coordination among Federal agencies with responsibility for middleware, Grid, and cloud projects, individuals involved in middleware, Grid, and cloud research and infrastructure, individuals involved in implementing or operating Grids and clouds, and users of Grids, clouds and middleware. Federal agency and Federal lab participants include: ANL, DHS, DOE/SC,FNAL, LANL, LBL, NASA, NIH, NIST, NOAA, NSF, PNNL, and UCAR. Non-Federal participants include Cisco Systems, Educause, IBM, Internet2, Information Sciences Institute, Level3 Communications, Microsoft, SURA, the University of Chicago, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the University of Wisconsin.
Current projects are:
- Coordinating R&D program directions for Grid and cloud applications and middleware
- Coordinating technical activities and sharing of resources among projects and programs
- Expediting operations and resolving emerging problems and technical issues
- Promoting interoperability, identifying best practices, and encouraging technical consensus
- Coordinating international issues such as Grid federations
- Coordinating Identity Management best practices, standards, and community outreach
- Addressing issues of persistence and long-term support for tools and infrastructure
- Providing outreach and information to potential users
The MAGIC Team was created in 2002.
The MAGIC Team reports to the Large Scale Networking (LSN) Coordinating Group of the Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NITRD) Subcommittee.
